Donkey Kong - Original Edition
« on: February 24, 2015, 09:29:50 AM »
Hi guys

I wanted to know if a section for Donkey Kong - Original Edition could eventually emerge on the forum?

Donkey Kong - Original Edition (running at 60Hz on an emulator)

Donkey Kong - Original Edition means the Donkey Kong edition that was installed by default on European red Wii. This is actually a version very similar to the arcade game.

This includes the addition of the level "Factory" and new animations...

The game is now available through the emulation of NES.

Perhaps a list showing the scores would be nice?

I only see scores for arcade and mame. I have no authority to comment or make changes for dkf but it seems like your version of DK would be more of a twin
Galaxies thing.

I have played this version.  The Pie Factory stage was not developed by Nintendo, but was a ROM hack that was outsourced to a third-party.  This was released as a special edition of the game with the beta Pie Factory unaltered.

It is almost impossible to clear the Pie Factory after level 4, and it is 100% luck-based if you do.  Fireballs can cross the divide, pies come out faster than Crazy Kong speeds, fireballs can go down ladders from the top level, pies group in twos, threes, and fours faster than you can possibly react, and pies flicker on the screen almost making them invisible.

TG does track this as it is an NES ROM, but no scores are posted.  For the record, DK on the NES is one of the buggiest games I have ever played.

Seriously ...? Oh my god, I grieve, i thought this version was clean.

After verification by me, it is true that from level 4 in the factory to the bottom flame moves and "pies" are going very fast. (too much)

But it is not insurmountable, away from ! Anyway, regarding clignotements, this is due to the insufficient capacity of the NES to many objects displayed on the screen.

I have successfully passed this course.

The game continues normally, no bug encounter.

Yes, it is possible to clear the pie factory, but I do not believe it is possible to reach the kill screen on this ROM with only four lives. When the pies are moving at that high of a speed, if you jump over one and another spawns, there is literally nothing you can do to escape.  You are dead before the jump even lands.

Yes that's probably true, i also doubt that four lives is sufficient to meet the killscreen ;)
