If George S (for example) gets an RBS on easy (for Rank B requirements), but does NOT have 1m on Hard, does he qualify for Rank C since he already has the requirement for a higher Rank?

(similarly if someone has 750k in CK but no KS, do they qualify for rank D or only the other 3)

Yes. Achieving the requirement for a harder Rank will count for any lower Rank as well. The idea still revolves around doing something progressively more difficulty for each Rank. If you can get 750k in CK, you clearly have the skill for a KS. How do you really use a score for the Rank D platformers, right? An easy CK KS could be 450k or 605k, for example. In my learned opinion, people have had an easier time getting the DK3 1M on Hard then getting the Easy RBS, so getting an RBS should qualify you for any of the 1M requirements.

OK, had a moment of insight with Carnival.  It's not only about being accurate, but it's about how quick you do it.  The ducks keep increasing as the round goes on.  So if you shoot everything quickly there will not be as many ducks to shoot.  See for every extra duck you see you have to use an extra bullet, and you only have so many bullets.  For once I feel like I did well in both games.  Had three games of at least 350,000 in Galaga.

Carnival
New high scores
32,110
32,400
35,310

Time spent yesterday   2hrs 21 minutes.   Time spent total 7hrs 13 minutes
Galaga
New high score
478,000

Time spent yesterday  2hrs and one minute

To be honest, what you described comes off more as a 1.2 million Donkey Kong score for Tetris Grandmaster 3

Tetris the Grand Master 3: Terror Instinct

Getting the Grand Master Grade (GM) in the game is rediculous. In earlier TGM games you had to meet certain score and time criteria to reach the GM grade but they took it to another level in this game. Here's an explaination of how to get the GM grade in Tetris the Grand Master 3: Terror Instinct:

"If the player exhausts the potential of all three grade systems (by reaching an S9 internal grade, attaining all nine Section COOLs, and earning at least six grade points in the invisible roll), the player will still only be awarded MasterM. The GrandMaster grade can only be first awarded through a Promotional Exam. Given the requirements to receive an exam, the player's best four performances in their last seven games must all be GrandMaster-worthy. Finally, in addition to clearing enough lines in the staff roll to get GrandMaster, the player must also survive it to pass the exam.

It is not necessary to be currently qualified MasterM in order to receive a GrandMaster promotion.

Once the player has a qualified class of GrandMaster, then the grade can be awarded in normal play, rather than being 'invisibly' converted down to MasterM. However, if the player is later demoted from GrandMaster, they must receive and pass a Promotional Exam again to return to receiving GrandMaster grades."

In order to get GM you have to have 4 games, out of your last 7, that are GM worthy meaning being stupidly fast. Score a lot of points and clearing the invisible tetris section during the credits. This opens up for you exam and you have to do this crazy feat once more to obtain the GM rank.

Only 6 people have done this and only 1 of those are non-japanese.

1. In the elevator stage, I tend to jump on the top-most platform right after the second elevator. At what level do the elevators descend too quickly to pull off this move? In a point-scoring game, does it matter if you make that top jump?
Never, but it's risky and not really worth doing unless going for a top 10 score.

2. I noticed there are three patterns for the springs. Is this throughout the whole game? I always thought there were just two. One that will always hit you, one to climb up the ladder safely.
See the Spring Theory thread. Springs have 16 different lengths and several long springs in a row can occur.

3. Not really an elevator stage question, but it tends to affect me here. On the arcade cabinet my friend and I use, sometimes after letting go of the joystick Mario will keep moving... and walk off the platform. Is this a problem with the machine or something we have to learn to deal with. (How?) Your joystick is gunked up, needs taken apart and cleaned.

Basic Donkey Kong Strategy / Elevator Stage Questions

Okay, I'm ready to start asking questions.

2. I noticed there are three patterns for the springs. Is this throughout the whole game? I always thought there were just two. One that will always hit you, one to climb up the ladder safely.
